DAY 2 – RAMADAN 2019: Cleaning House

I went to bed at 01:00 still full from the Iftar dinner. I normally go to bed at midnight, but the clocks have been turned back an hour for the month of Ramadan and I haven't adjusted to the time change yet. I consumed copious amounts of water before going to bed, so I knew that meant I would probably be up in the night - a 'necessary evil'. I set my alarm to wake up at 03:45 to make sure I drank more water prior to dawn. I vaguely remember having a weird dream and when my alarm went off and it somehow became part of the dream (you know how that happens). I pressed "snooze", but in my dream that button meant something entirely different. Luckily, I awoke on the second (or maybe 3rd) alarm, dazed by the dream, and managed to chug a bottle of water just before the "call to prayer" started.

I had no classes today because, with Ramadan, everyone's schedule has changed. Offices that are normally open until 17:00 close at 15:00 or 16:00 so that people can go home and get ready for Iftar. 2 hour classes have been shortened to 1 1/2 hours and some classes cancelled altogether. Everyone is very realistic knowing they will have less energy during this month. I have been warned to expect to see more short tempers, arguments, and traffic issues. I will be avoiding the main thoroughfares during peak times, for sure.

Since I have free time on my hands, I no longer have an excuse not to clean. So my bathroom looks fantastic today. All my floors are washed, mirrors cleaned, bedding is laundered, kitchen scrubbed...

Maybe Ramadan needs to last longer than a month!

Great posting. Your sense of humour is obviously not diminished by lack of food.
